Quicksand!

Postby Swell » Mon Aug 18, 2014 11:15 am

A while ago I was surfing in the harbour at Soldiers - lowest tide I've ever seen and there was sand exposed along the whole wall. Nice small clean wave peeling along the waterline. I was walking out towards Kingston Bay along the rocks and my left leg suddenly disappeared into what looked at first like regular sand. It was fine cos it was just one leg, and I had a nice floaty longboard, but could've been different if it was both! I looked back and could see water welling up through the sand - proper quicksand.

So I just thought I'd share this as its something to watch out for. It's rare that that much sand is exposed, but I'd hate to think of someone coming a cropper and kids play round there too so it's worth being aware. I've mentioned it to quite a few people.
