Sharks...in Sussex

We've all seen Mick Fanning's close encounter with a big shark and it made me realise how appropriate the name of this website is, but local surfers can potentially enjoy a similar close encounter with (harmless to humans) sharks at the Witterings. Local Beach Clean tomorrow (Sunday 7th June) and every month

The Deans Beach and Environment Volunteers was set up by one of the original Brighton SAS crew and they do a beach clean on the first Sunday in each month, alternating between Ovingdean, Rottingdean and Saltdean. Tomorrow it's at Ovingdean at 11am and will include the Big Lunch family picnic at 1230...

Lancing Beach Green to fail new bathing water tests?

It'll probably be because of polluted water coming through combined sewers or flowing off the roads...

Cantabria

I returned there this summer for a family holiday and lucked out renting a flat with a view of one of the area's top spots. The owner is a friendly US surfer (Justin) who's married to a Spanish woman. There are loads of surf spots to choose from including reef, river mouth and beach breaks. There's ...

Tide table app

I just downloaded the Aperto UK tides Android app and it looks pretty good. Has got sunrise and sunset times on as well. And it's free.

Re: Peniche surf schools and board hire

Just got back from Portugal and used these blokes: http://www.globalsurfschool.com/en/index.php . They are based at a long beach south of Peniche called Praia Areia Branca. They were great. Mrs Shredhead and Sprog Shredhead had lessons nearly every day. The instructor was very professional, safety c...

Re: worst surf in UK

Norfolk's actually ok, especially da North Shore, that gets swell from the Arctic. I'm tempted to nominate Brighton, but we all know that's untrue. The NW coast from the Mersey upwards must be pretty dire as little swell gets that far up the Irish Sea. A lot of west coast of Scotland is in the swell...
