Surf/SUP spots
Hi,
I'm fairly new to the area and was hoping for some tips on good places to SUP and surf. I've been down to Hove with my SUP and it's ok but wondered if there were some nicer spots, pref without parking fees.
Witterings is great but too far after work.
I've heard about 'hotpipes'(?) but not sure where that is and that there can be some aggro at the marina unless you're a 'known'.
My surfing is rusty and sh1te at best, I mostly SUP now.
Any advice, much appreciated.

Hi,
If you're SUPing anywhere is good but you'll find the Hotpipes and beaches nearby a little better. The Hotpipe is more or less in front of the Shoreham Power Station (look for the big chimney). You do have to pay for parking (if the machine is working!) but it's not Brighton prices! For details of when to surf here check out the 'where to surf' page on Sharkbait (scroll down) http://www.sharkbait.co.uk/surfspots.htm

Because the shoreham port authority don't allow SUP's in the water there as its a private beach, it comes under port authority directive 174, by-laws, section 1.5, water craft.
So you're best off leaving at home!

Re: Surf/SUP spots
In need of local wisdom! I am in the process of moving to Brighton and would be very grateful about any "does and donts" with the local surf community. For example other than Hotpipes are there any other areas which ban SUP boards.
Also my car is so small (about the size of a coke can) to carry a SUP board on it any gust of wind would turn the tin can over, so has anyone tried and can give a true opinion on inflatatable SUP boards for example does the stitching hold or does it really only take 10 min to pump them up?
Any advice much appreciated.

Yes John a solid directive that one.
Re: Surf/SUP spots
My advice; learn how to surf - that way you can save your car and cred
