Act now to help protect local surf spots

Postby shredhead » Fri Jul 06, 2012 10:04 pm

Brighton and Hove Council is currently consulting on its draft City Plan which sets out policies for the next 15 years.

There's some good news and bad news.
Good: There is a policy that recognises the value of surfing at Brighton Marina. This is the first time in local history that the Council have had such a policy.
Bad: the value of surfing is not recognised at the West Pier nor Shoreham Harbour (the breaks are actually in Adur but the Brighton plan has 'shared' policies in it.

What can you do?
Complete the consultation, supporting the policy on Brighton Marina (DA2 A 6) but objecting to the policies on Shoreham Harbour (DA8 B iv) and Central Seafront (SA1 B - West Pier) because they do not recognise their local and regional importance for surfing. Surfing should be protected and improved as part of any redevelopments.

To respond, you are supposed to use a Consultation Portal or a REsponse Form which are here: http://www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/index.c ... #subtitle7

But you might also try emailing the Council, making sure you give them your name and address: ldf@brighton-hove.gov.uk
