Down wind surfing

Just though I would let a few people in on something that has got a few of us fully stoked on the summer flat spells and that is the down wind paddling we have been doing the last few years. Ether prone, sitting or standing on a board, kayak or sup the amount of fun we have been having doing down wind runs from worthing to shorham has been huge! All you need is a tiny bit of wind to give a bit of a little sw-w swell running down the cost and you can literally have a hour or twos surf all the way down the coast catching hundreds of waves without having to paddle out and the best bit it never gets crowded! Those weeks that go by in the summer when you are slowly going stir crazy hoping for a wave have totally gone and are now replaced with a buzz that equals a good surf around here. It would be cool to see more people out there enjoin this side of the sport and I cant believe we didn't start it sooner as it really has been a summer sanity saver! If you want some advice just ask away!

here's a strava link to our run on Wednesday if you want to take a look with some lovely head high rides off the back of shorham harbor.

we have been having some fantastic down wind surfing recently in this super good weather and afternoon sea breezes, if you longboard i really can't recommend giving it ago enough if you like long mellow cruzy waves with no crowds its perfect, the few of us that go really can't believe there are not more surfers out there. Yesterday we went from west worthing down and into shoreham harbour which is about 7 miles of surfing and riding waves from shoulder to head high which is far better that the less than a foot of mush that was on the beach so hope to see more people out there soon!

i have a few in the pic I'm on a 16' but we all so use 14' and 12'6 a lot. In the winter we go down to langstone harbour were you could almost use a surfboard is so good when its blowing 50knots onshore. The faster the board is the more waves you will catch and proper dw boards are surprisingly manoeuvrable so there is a lot of cross stepping trimming and gliding.

take a look at this new vid from kai, just because there are no waves on the beach it doesn't mean you can't go surfing! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7XupqFOFSg
